Millican Wins 2015 Six Ball Championship

Darin Watson was ready for the rain on Friday nightCROQUET, INTERRUPTED

BELTON, MO -- After a long night of rain delays and tornado sirens, Deborah Millican went on a last ball last turns run to claim the 2015 MCA Six Ball Championship under the lights at Markey Park this evening in Belton, Missouri. The fun started when Dylan Goodwin started a late run but peeled Jason Johnson's blue ball to clear him of severe deadness at wicket five. Goodwin broke down but picked back up another break to start last turns that ended after a missed roquet after 12PW.

Free of deadness, Johnson pieced together a break that looked like it would go the distance. Unfortunately, he dribbled through 11PW and had a hampered shot on the roquet. When he missed, Millican picked it up anc started her break at wicket six. She went all the way around, but as the last ball, the game ended when she cleared 13PW.

2015 Missouri Open - Gold Schedule

BELTON, MO - Entries for the 2015 Missouri Open Pro and Gold Division topped out at an odd number of 15 players. That scenario forced a split between the Pro and Gold Division. With 10 pro spots available eight spots were given to the eight players that made the pro playoff at the Lee's Summit T-Bone Tournament. Matt Smith and Paul Miller were awarded the final two spots based on 9W ranking. The Gold Division will play a four-game round-robin format at this Saturday's event with games starting at 8:30 a.m. All players will receive one bye during the event. Full schedule:

DRESS CODE: The MCA does not have a dress code, but we do honor the code of host venues. In this case, Eagles' Landing requires that men wear shirts with sleeves. Cut-off shorts are not allowed and frayed jeans are also not permitted.

NO COOLERS: Eagles's Landing Golf Course does not allow coolers on the course. This is to prohibit the use of alcohol and also to encourage usage of the on-site clubhouse.

SIX-BALL RULES:
Six ball follows the same set of rules as the MCA Silver Division, but each player only plays one ball. The order of play is Blue, Red, Black, Yellow, Green, Orange. The first player to run all of the wickets and peg out is the winner. There is a time-limit of 50 minutes. If time runs out before a peg out, each ball gets one last turn. A player earns one point for each wicket run and peg scored. The player with the most points in a non-pegout game is the winner.

A player may not earn bonus shots off of another ball prior to running the first wicket. A player also may not earn bonus shots off of any other ball that has not previously scored the first wicket. If a player that has run the first wicket (in the game), hits his or her ball into a ball that has not scored the first wicket (out of the game), the balls reset and the turn is over.

One bonus shot is earned for running a wicket or scoring the stake. Wickets must be run from the proper side. If a player scores two wickets in one stroke, then two bonus shots are earned. If a player scores a wicket and a stake in the same stroke two bonus strokes are earned. However, a third bonus shot can never be earned (two wickets and a stake, still only results in two bonus shots).

If a player hits another ball, that earns two bonus shots. However, a player may only hit a ball once before scoring a wicket.

Each player gets one, one-minute time out during the game.

If a player withdrawals from a game, that player's ball is removed from the court.

Four Races, Four New MCA Leaders

LEAWOOD, KS -- With the addition of the newly formed Bronze (six ball) development division, the Midwest Croquet Association now has four points races to monitor. After his win at the Lee's Summit T-Bone Tournament, it is no surprise to see Matt Griffith at the top of the GWM Pro Points race with 147 points. Runner-up Greg Clouse follows in second with 117 points, while last year's champion Dylan Goodwin sits in third with 96 points.

2015 MCA Pro Rankings Update

The MCA has updated the Pro nine wicket rankings to include the 2014 season. This ranking data is a full career update which means that includes all events starting with the inception of the MCA Nine Wicket Series in 2013.

The one-year 2014 Pro rankings are available here. The simple ranking system is based on win percentage and average wickets scored per game. The system is an additional tool to be utilized by tournament managers for seeding blocks at MCA nine wicket events. The rankings system is based on games played within a division, so it is possible for a player to carry a ranking in multiple divisions.
