MCA 2021 AGM: Two Event Dates Set

The 2021 MCA AGM was held virtually on February 6, 2021, and the meeting mainly centered around bringing back a more active tournament schedule for the upcoming season. Shortly after the meeting, it was confirmed that the ninth annual Kansas Open Nine Wicket Series (9WS) event will be held on the weekend of July 24-25, 2021 at Kactus Creek Croquet Club in Parkville, Mo. In addition, the board also agreed to bring back the traditional date in September for the MCA Championship. The singles Pro, Gold and Silver Championships for the 9WS would be played on Saturday, September 18, 2021. A venue is still be determined and the event could potentially include a second event played on Sunday.

AGM Highlights: Jackson is New President

The 2018 Midwest Croquet Association Annual General Meeting held at the eCafe in Overland Park, Kansas, on January 27, 2018, achieved the primay goal of transitioning to a new president. Steve Jackson from Kansas City has taken over the role from Dylan Goodwin who served for five years.

The transition was the central part of the meeting discussion and an interesting twist occurred as a new vice president position was created which Ellie Griffith taking that role. The idea is that adding another member will help with the workload for the president and also ensure of smooth succession in future years.

Gold Championship: Jackson's Revenge

The 2017 MCA Gold Championship set up similar to the 2016 edition. Steve Jackson entered with a lead in the overall race in both years. While 2016 ended on a sour note, Jackson left no doubt in 2017 as he capped his 15-1 season with a pair of wins to claim his first Gold Series Championship and third straight Gold tournament title.

2017 MCA Championship at Loch Lloyd Line-ups

All qualified players are checked in and the line-ups are set for the 2017 MCA Championship to be held this Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Loch Lloyd in Belton, Missouri. The Pro Division will start at 8:30 a.m. with a projected championship game start time of 11:00 a.m. The Gold Division will start at approximately 12:30 p.m. and will also incorporate the Silver Championship. Four players that fall from the Gold Playoff will move into the Silver Championship while the Gold Championship progresses. The Pro Division will have a court available if knocked out players after round one would like to have a plate.

MCA Championship Headed to Loch Lloyd

The MCA is pleased to announce that the 2017 MCA Championship will be held at Loch Lloyd in Belton, Missouri, on September 16, 2017. The Pro Division will have the morning start this year and will begin play at 8:30 a.m. The Gold Division start time will follow the Pro Championship, so the estimated start time is 12:20 p.m. The traditional all-white croquet apparel rule will be in effect for this event, which happens to be the fifth MCA Championship since the start of the Nine Wicket Series (9WS) in 2013. Three MCA players will be participating in this Saturday's Croquet Network States Shield Championship final as Missouri will take on the visiting Wisconsin team at Kactus Creek Croquet Club in Parkville, Missouri. 2017 KC Open Gold: Jackson's Perfect Day

The MCA Gold Division took to the court for the second half of the Kansas City Open this morning at 8:30 a.m. Five rounds later, Steve Jackson stood tall as the winner as he went 5-0 and won three straight on the King of the Mountain (KOM) court. The 10-player format on two courts acted like a Swiss while awarding more points each round for the winners v winners games. By round three, that created a KOM court that awarded six points per win and a secondary court that offered three points per win. Players that took a loss in the early rounds had a path back to the top of the mountain.

Last Turns Action Hero

After a day of battle at the 2017 Eagles' Landing Missouri Open, the MCA Pro Division title came down to a last turns run by Matt Smith as he claimed a tight 26-20 win over Matt Griffith on Saturday afternoon.

The event was held at Eagles's Landing Golf Course in Belton, Missouri and drew 17 of the MCA's best battling in Pro and Gold divisions half of the Gold players falling into a Silver Division playoff.

Gabe Gets Gold at 2017 Lee’s Summit T-Bone Croquet Tournament

Gabe Airrington took his success at the Lee’s Summit T-Bone Croquet Tournament to the next level on Saturday.

Returning to Howard Park, the site of his first tournament victory in the Silver Division in 2015, Airrington went undefeated in combined Gold/Silver Division block play in the morning and knocked out the four and two seeds to take first place in the Gold playoff in the afternoon. His block wins over the eventual Silver Division finalists, Eddie Mondt and Wanda Jackson, and his triumphs in the Gold Division proved he belongs in the Gold group in 2017 after a dominant 2016 in the Silver Division.

Drama to the End

BELTON, MO -- Finally, two of the MCA Nine Wicket Series races lived up to the hype and played out on the final Saturday of the season at Markey Park in Belton, Missouri on September 17, 2016. The GWM Pro Series race saw Matt Griffith come into the MCA Championship Saturday with a narrow 16-point lead over Greg Clouse. The MCA Gold Series was even closer with Steve Jackson clinging to a five-point lead over Jodi Adams. That set the stage for a dramatic finish to the 2016 season.

At the Pro level, there was an interesting twist in that the playoff bracket favored Clouse as Matt Smith slotted into the top half of the bracket as a five seed with a 9-1 record. That indicated Griffith would likely have to take on Smith in round two, while Clouse was set for a much easier path in the bottom half of the bracket.

Clouse Roars Back

When the MCA Nine-Wicket Series launched in May of 2013 with the Stilwell Open, Greg Clouse was there. He took that first title with an 18-16 win over Dylan Goodwin in the final. Since then Clouse made many appearances in MCA 9WS finals, but had to settle for runner-up status each time.

The USCA's Midwest Regionals is ready to roll in Kansas City this weekend with a golf croquet format and several MCA players in the line-up.
