VILLAGE OF LOCH LLOYD, MO -- Through some tough scheduling and one missed event, 2015 MCA Silver Shield Champion Darin Watson came into the 2017 MCA Silver Championship at Loch Lloyd on Saturday, September 16, 2017, on the back the toughest stretch of his croquet career. In fact, with all Silver players being pushed up to Gold, he was 0-7 on the year including one loss in Silver from the Lee's Summit T-Bone Tournament.

He did start the day off in the Gold playoff with a 15-11 loss to Ellie Griffith. But once Silver play started, he left nothing to chance as he took down Di Berg 19-9 in the play-in game for the Silver championship. He advanced to play Cade Millican who gave Wanda Jackson a good battle in round one of the Gold playoff, but fell 10-8.

With only three players in the Silver bracket, Millican received the bye to the Silver Championship game. Watson was not to be denied though as he dominated in what was mainly a two-ball showdown. He won 24-15 to get his second Silver Championship title.

The real intrigue unfolded though in the Silver Series points race. Millican was awarded 10 points based on his season average for the bye and combined with his points in the championship game that put him at 56 points -- just one shy of Eddie Mondt's 57. Watson did even better and landed right on 57 for a tie. With the game wins also tied, it came down to a head-to-head. Mondt had the advantage there as he beat Watson 27-17 in the Lee's Summit T-Bone. So, Mondt is the 2017 Silver Series champion and the new holder of the Silver Cup.
