Results of the 2009 Croquet Season

This year Billy Bob & Debbie Breeden was the only ones that were able to attend the Midwest Regional Tournament in Edina, Minnesota.

After venturing to Edina, Minnesota, Billy Bob put in a great showing by winning 2nd place in the 6 wicket Midwest Regional Tournament in the First Flight Division.

In August the 36th Annual Kansas City tournament was held. The winner was Johnny Nichol of Warrensburg, Mo.

On Labor Day weekend several of us from Missouri travel to Oklahoma to compete in the Indian fall Territory Croquet Tournament held in Tulsa. Matt Smith of Warrensburg, Mo. finished second in the championship flight singles and Matt Griffith & Matt Smith finished first in the championship flight doubles. While Jodi Adams of Kansas City, MO, & Debbie Breeden of Gallatin finish in Third place in the 2nd flight division.

Then our focus moved to the 9-Wicket National, which was hosted by MCA & KCCC Croquet Clubs, held at the Shawnee Mission Sports Complex in Shawnee, Ks. On Sept 25-27, competitors from Canada, California, Missouri, Minnesota, Florida, Michigan, Louisiana, & Texas battled it out to show their skills.

Singles division in 9 wicket were: 1st Matt Smith, 2nd George Cochran, & 3rd Matt Griffith. Doubles division in 9 wicket were: 1st Matt Smith & Nick Zink, 2nd Matt Griffith & Billy Bob Breeden, & 3rd Matt Baird & Art Percell. Cutthroat winners were: 1st Jason Cole, 2nd Charles Cole, & 3rd Ron Millican.

The 28 annual Pumpkin open was held in Oct. The winners were 1st Don Brooks of Warrensburg, Mo. 2nd was Dalton Mayo of Parkville, Mo. & 3rd was Johnny Nichol of Warrensburg, Mo.

The M& M State Face Off was held Oct 16-17 at the Kactus Creek Croquet course in Parkville, MO. Competitors from Minnesota & Missouri battled the weather & each other in order to be named M&M Champions. After stiff competition in singles & doubles matches, Minnesota players Nate Weimerskirch, Rick Sheely, & George Funk were named the M&M winners, Missouri players competing were Matt Smith, Matt Griffith, & Billy Bob Breeden. All players are looking forward to next year’s tournament & hopefully warmer weather.
