The shortened version of the Kansas City Open ran smooth this past Saturday at Kactus Creek Croquet Club and the event saw Matt Griffith and Ellie Griffith defend their home court. The Pro and Gold Divisions started together in an open bracket with losers from round one moving into a Gold playoff. Winners in that round advanced in the Pro Playoff and faced off against the top four seeds -- all of whom had a bye in the first round. The quarterfinals produced a lot of excitment as two the top seeds were upset.

The 2019 Kansas City Open wrapped up earlier today with tightly contested 16-15 Gold Championship Final with Ellie Griffith taking the title over Justin Marciniak. The event played out at Kactus Creek Croquet Club in Parkville, Missouri, it was Griffith's fifth straight appearance in a Gold Division title game where she has now won three out of five finals.
Player Report by Dylan Goodwin
The 2019 Kansas City Open offered a tough selection challenge for the Pro Division with two blocks of four only advancing one player each to the championship. The format came about with the available court space at Kactus Creek limited to one court.
PARKVILLE, Mo.—KC Open games will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
As of this writing, the MCA board is finalizing a solution to the Pro Division schedule. As a consequence, the Pro and Gold division matchups and schedules are subject to change. Regardless, players should be ready for tournament action to begin at 8 a.m. each day. The MCA asks that players plan to arrive 30 minutes before their first game.
LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo.—Because heavy rains this week have caused poor court conditions, the MCA is canceling the 2019 Lee's Summit T-Bone Croquet Tournament.
Organizers have compared the field where the courts were to be located to a marsh this week. Today, the courts look too wet and muddy to prepare and provide a fun croquet experience.
Thank you to those who signed up as well as the MCA members who invited newer players to step up their game.
LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo.—Midwest Croquet Association members decided to revamp the format of the 2019 Lee's Summit T-Bone Croquet Tournament during the Annual General Meeting on Saturday.
But the MCA needs your help, quickly.
The MCA is asking that members recruit a partner to participate in a Member-Guest-style doubles tournament. Consider this year's Lee's Summit T-Bone Croquet Tournament to be a "high-low" tournament in which a more-skilled player is paired with a less-skilled player. Or think of it like a Pro-Am tournament.
The goal is to kick off the croquet season alongside friends, significant others or relatives who don't often find themselves running three-ball breaks. We want others to experience the game and the MCA. The event will be fun, social, interactive and less competitive than MCA Nine Wicket Series events of the past.
LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo.—MCA members will meet to discuss the 2018 and 2019 seasons at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, in Lee's Summit.
The meeting will be hosted by the Millicans at 905 SW Loula Lane, Lee’s Summit, MO 65801.
